About Us
By training ourselves to become habitual readers-of-books, we reclaim our attention and grow our capacity to fruitfully use the digital tools we are surrounded by. By growing our contemplation, we are able to cultivate our soul.
By reading great stories and philosophy, we are re-forging our ties to the ancient cultures that form the roots of liberal democracy and a culture focused on the common good. The Reading Books Initiative serves adults who work in various professions.
Services

Reading Retreats
The antidote to distraction is becoming a reader-of-books. The path to contemplation is silent reading and enriched conversation. We will read a play aloud, and then discuss it. Some retreats are a halfday, and some are a weekend.

Reading Groups
We offer reading groups to help people gain accountability and to foster the habits of deep reading and enhanced conversation. The reading groups are free. We rely on volunteer "tutors," people with experience leading reading groups, so if you are interested, please contact us.

Podcast Series
We have podcast series on these themes: a) How to and why become a serious reader; b) The search for meaning through literature.
